Corns, Callus and Plantar Warts
We see patients daily with Corns, Callus and Plantar Warts and provide permanent curative treatments for these conditions. When we walk, our feet absorb our body weight whilst at the same time bearing the pressure and constraints of our shoes. When this pressure becomes unbalanced and extra friction is caused over a particular area of the foot thickened areas of skin (corns and calluses) form that can become painful. Corns and calluses are most often found on the balls of the feet or the tops of the toes.
Because the feet are warm and moist in the shoes, removal of corns and calluses needs to be performed by a qualified podiatrist to ensure that an infection does not develop. In addition to removal of the corn or callus advice and information is required to maintain foot health including:
- Footwear advice to reduce friction
- Possible requirement for orthotics to reduce or eliminate future corns & calluses
- Prescribing the use of creams, padding or and toe protection.
