Nail Care & Surgery
Ingrown toe nails, also known as Onychcryptosis, are one of the most common conditions that we see at our clinic. It occurs when a sharp corner or edge of the toenail grows into the skin at the end of or side of the toe. Pain, Inflammation and sometimes Infection happens at the site of where the nail is digging into the flesh.
If you suspect that you may have an ingrown toe nail it is important to see a podiatrist before it gets worse. If seen soon enough, preventative treatment such as cutting the nail correctly and anti-biotic dressings are often effective. Should the condition require, ingrown toe nail surgery is very effective at treating ingrown toe nails.
Our podiatrists have undertaken specialised training in providing safe and effective surgery for ingrown toe nails on a day case basis. The most common surgery performed for ingrown toe nails is the removal of nail wedges from the side of the nail, followed by the application of a medication to permanently narrow the nail. There is no scarring from this surgery and it leaves you with a normal looking nail. The medication successfully ensures no nail regrowth in 98% of cases. This surgery takes up to 6-10 weeks to heal properly
Other common nail care conditions that we see include routine nail trims, nail correction, and treatment for damaged and fungal nails.
